How may AI help overcome inertia of students (and teachers) and achieve more meaningful work productivity?
Disclaimer: Nope, this blog post was not written by AI, just the pea brain of Raine.
Following the department's conversations on ChatGPT, I find myself reading up on the many AI tools out there (and thanks to the power of social media), I started browsing random AI tools hack for productivity as recommended by some IT guy I follow.
Here is an example of the list of tools he consolidated (an older version which I've saved previously):
Originally, I had hoped to find a coding AI that can help me overcome challenges faced in updating school website efficiently. (Alas, that is still a search in progress, since GitHub Copilot that I've tried is not free at all grrr).
Something else that caught my attention was Tome AI, which helps you generate presentation slides. I thought this would be useful for my Sec 3s who are working on their research on SG Tourism.
Here is what I generated on my own just to see how it works (in less than 10 min): random piece of research on Marina Bay Development
Very, very impressed. With the appropriate question inputs, the AI generates a few slide options with suggested headings. The link above shows a deck of information slides on Marina Bay transformation without any edits from me yet.
I've since shared this tool with the class, and gave them permission to make use of this tool to complete their background research on SG tourism development, focusing on at least 1 attraction. (hoping to help some of them overcome the inertia of doing research work and typing it out at length using Google Docs).
My only irk so far is, I haven't figured out how to find/put in quality maps that can support my research. Have tried many prompts, but nothing remotely related to maps come out as image search results (so far seems like it's all HDR images).
However, with the templates included as starter, I see its application in quite a number of areas:
- coursework ideas (moodboards)
- e-portfolio (for CESSON)
- I wonder if there is a way to standardise a corporate theme before generating slides (can then use for school outreach deck of slides maybe?)
- In fact, I shared this with my friend in another industry, and that has prompted her to try it for her pitching deck of slides.

Fun times.
